Maggie Braxton

2018 Norman Tomaka Family Community Service Award

Maggie Braxton is a rising 4th year pharmacy student at Lake Erie School of Osteopathic Medicine, Bradenton campus from Cottondale, FL.  Maggie expressed her passion for the community long before pharmacy school in different avenues including school, sporting events, and church. Once in pharmacy school, Maggie’s passion for community service continued to shine and she immediately assumed multiple leadership positions starting with Community Service Outreach Chair for CPFI (Christian Pharmacy Fellowship International) continuing into Operation Heart Chair for APhA-ASP, CPFI President, FSHP-SC Treasurer and President, and PLS Secretary. She took on these leadership roles to aid in and organize community events, but it turned out these events helped her grow as a person without even realizing it. These positions have provided her with an opportunity to participate in health fairs, educational events, and other community outreach events, furthering her personal mission to serve. When leading, she continuously makes events that serve multiple areas of the community while volunteering and encouraging participation in order to build professionalism and understanding of public health. She says that the most important aspect of service is understanding that you do not have to go overseas or to another area to help, there is always something to be done right where you are.
