Alvarez Family Scholarship
The Alvarez Family Scholarship was established in 2026 to celebrate the long term commitment of Eric and Goar Alvarez to the pharmacy profession. Third generation pharmacists, both owned independent community pharmacies and both serve or served as directors of pharmacy for health systems. Goar and his late brother Eric are Past President’s of the Florida Pharmacy Association and both are also former members of the Florida Board of Pharmacy. Eric and Goar are alumni of Florida A&M University and of Nova Southeastern University Colleges of Pharmacy. The scholarship recognizes a student pharmacist that demonstrates outstanding academic achievement, is actively involved in professional and student pharmacy organizations and is enthusiastically engaged in service to their community. The scholarship award is $1500.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a current student enrolled in one of the seven affiliated Florida pharmacy schools: Florida A&M University, University of Florida, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Nova Southeastern University, University of South Florida, LECOM, Larkin Health Sciences Institute.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrated excellence in academics, community service, and active involvement in professional or student pharmacy organizations.
- Must have a current Student Pharmacist Membership in the FPA (Florida Pharmacy Association).
Award Details
- One-time scholarship award of $1,500.
- Funds may be used toward tuition, books, or other educational expenses.
Selection & Notification
- Applications are reviewed by the Florida Pharmacy Foundation’s scholarship selection committee.
- Recipients will be notified via email and announced on the Foundation’s official platforms.
- Award is presented during a designated Foundation or Association event.

- Complete the application form and upload all required documents, including transcripts and letters of recommendation.
- Submit a personal statement detailing your academic journey, leadership experiences, and service contributions.
- You may apply for as many different Scholarships as you like utilizing the online form.
About this Scholarship
This scholarship is a tribute to Eric Alvarez. Both Dr. Goar Alvarez and his late brother Eric Alvarez careers exemplify the values of integrity, lifelong learning, and service to the community. Whether through leadership, teaching, or direct patient interaction, their contributions continue to inspire colleagues and future generations of pharmacists. Today, Dr. Goar Alvarez is Assistant Dean at the NSU College of Pharmacy, Director of the NSU Clinic Pharmacy and the Director of Pharmacy at South Florida State Hospital.
